authenticity is overrated
Finding Your Way to An Intentional Personal BRAND
I found my voice at 40 when I started singing with a rock band for the first time in my life.
And not just any rock band. A 60s style rock band called Rocket to Uranus. Yes, really. I perform in gogo boots and vintage mini dresses, with a setup that includes lights, a giant disco ball, and a film montage on a screen behind us, filled with clips from old movies (think Elvis, 007, and space-age movies from the 60s) and music videos.
What if I didn’t try this ridiculous idea because it didn’t feel authentic?
What if authenticity is about each moment, not meant to be a fixed ideal attached to your identity?
Your answers here will help shape the book, to help make the concepts more approachable through real life stories. Your stories will be shared as examples of how people think about authenticity and identity, and how they’ve shifted their thoughts and beliefs about themselves in significant ways.
That’s what this book is about: Exploring the concepts of identity and authenticity with the intention of exposing readers to the idea that they are capable of so much more than they know, that society and even the people closest to us often misunderstand and underestimate us, leading us to second guess ourselves and take fewer risks.
And when we take fewer risks, we reduce our opportunities for personal growth and more satisfying relationships.
