strengths & Storytelling: uncovering the strengths of others
Hosted by Sarah Elkins

At The Bean, Sarah Elkins, Heidi Hoffman, Thomas Jackson, Megan Miller, #NLVChicago2020

*Only session offered in blended mode*

Topic Tie-In: CliftonStrengths (StrengthsFinder)* assessment results help us understand the natural, most instinctive ways we solve problems and build relationships. If we know and intentionally build our natural talents, we improve our outcomes. But how do we uncover those natural talents in others if we don’t know their strengths? We ask them to tell us stories.

Joe Kwon, NLVChicago2020

Summary: This is the session to set the tone for #NLVParkCity2022. Through this guided discussion and exercises, we will learn how to ask the right questions to uncover pivotal stories of the people around us, how to guide the conversation toward positive outcomes, and how to make subtle adjustments to build trust and confidence.

We’ll also spend some time discussing how to share our own stories to demonstrate our strengths.

*CliftonStrengths assessment cost is included in your registration.

11:15am - 12:30PM

imposter syndrome and confidence

Topic Tie-In: Even if you don’t struggle with imposter syndrome, you know people who do. How do we use what we learned in the previous session to help others and ourselves? Is it all about confidence and self-esteem, and is imposter syndrome always a bad thing?

NeilHughesNLVChicago2020.jpg

Summary: Neil Hughes and Melissa Hughes (unrelated!) will guide the group through discussions on this topic, revealing the vulnerability that must exist for us to truly connect with others, but also contributes to our feelings of self-consciousness.

When we guide others toward confidence and trust, we improve outcomes for our businesses, our employees, and others in our communities.

12:30 - 1:30pm Lunch on your own

1:45pm - 3:15pm

belonging is an inside Job with outside influence

Topic Tie-In: Let’s build on the day’s sessions by wrapping up with a discussion on belonging at work. It may not sound like a practical, critical topic, but with today’s workforce shifting to far more remote work, bringing our personal lives together with our professional ones, and higher than ever rates of depression and anxiety, belonging has a profound impact on the bottom line of every business.

Join Sara Blewett, Luke Freeman, and Hannah Bratterud in discussing how we demonstrate belonging for others, and how we build resilience in our own sense of belonging - wherever we are.

Good ideas are common - what’s uncommon are people who will work hard enough to bring them about.

3:30Pm - Tabletop speed sessions: Get to know your nlv resources

Topic Tie-In: We tried this structured session for the first time at #NLVDenver in 2018, and heard from participants that it was one of their favorite sessions, so we’ve added it to every agenda since! Tabletop discussions will begin with a theme, and will be hosted and facilitated by an NLV participant. Each theme will be discussed for 30 minutes, and then participants will rotate through the room. We’ll have four micro-sessions.

Summary: This time will be spent making sure you have a chance to know every participant, to develop clarity around your vision for time spent among these incredible individuals, and to learn how they can be resources for you in the future.

Prepare for the session: Be sure to connect with other participants prior to NLVParkCity2022 so you're familiar with your tribe.

Philosophy walk: Ethics in business

Topic Tie-In: Now more than ever, it’s time to talk about the reality of business and the relationship between businesses, their direct stakeholders, and their impact on the environment and communities around them. Profit isn’t a novelty, it’s a necessity. How do we navigate a balance?

In this interactive session, you - the participants - will design the questions for discussion and build an activity to uncover answers.

We will break into small groups, leave the meeting venue, and work through the activities designed by the groups, exploring the Park City community and nature.

At 10:30am we will debrief together in the hotel to uncover our biggest “ah ha” moments from the session.

How Does All This Continue? How Do We Apply All We've Learned?
planning session and nlv debrief

You know those conferences you go to where you download all this great information... take copious notes... and then forget it all over the following weeks and months?

That’s what we call the After-Conference Hangover.

#NLVDenver2018

#NLVDenver2018

At NLV, this doesn’t happen.

In this interactive session, NLV facilitators are available to discuss your next steps, so you can bring the sessions together and make what you’ve learned habitual.

You'll get a close-up view of each facilitator’s ideas, as well as their expectations for participants and themselves in the coming months. With the help of our facilitators, you’ll get a clear roadmap of your next steps, as well as how to follow up to encourage accountability.

REMEMBER, WE'RE NOT NETWORKING HERE - WE'RE BUILDING A NETWORK.

With many conferences, the return to our normal routine means the loss of the motivation and energy created at the event. Your facilitators will help you identify the triggers you need, the follow-up you choose, and the challenges you'll face to continue your motivation long after the conference ends.
